Hi, I’m Jordan from the UK! My journey in Computer Science began a decade ago when I started my degree in the field. With a keen interest in tech, I quickly discovered a passion for designing and developing software. My favourite modules were Human-Computer Interaction and Programming – I loved the blend of creativity and logic involved!
After university, I took on a role as a Software Developer at a college, working on Greenfield software to support students and staff. My role was a bit unique – not only did I develop the software, but I was also responsible for the entire design process. This included meeting with stakeholders, creating user personas, identifying pain points, gathering requirements, programming the applications, and handling testing and release.
A few years later, I joined PwC as a full-stack developer. Knowing my passion for design and creating engaging user experiences, I set out to prove the value of a dedicated design team. The tech unit I was part of focused heavily on building first, with less emphasis on the user journey. I often found myself responsible for designing assets but lacked the time and resources I felt were essential. After some persistence, I managed to establish and lead a UI/UX team, which I now head. Our team of six is responsible for the UI and UX across all applications developed by PwC Deals Tech.
Even today, I enjoy programming in my spare time to keep my skills sharp. But my true passion lies in understanding user needs and creating software that people genuinely love to use.
When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me doing some kind of sport – from racket sports to surfing (well, attempting to surf!). I’ve got a competitive side, whether I’m aiming to win against others or beat my own personal bests in the gym. I’m also a big fan of the outdoors and love incorporating nature into my holidays whenever I can. Socialising is really important to me, too – I’m lucky to have a great group of friends spread across a few places around the world.
And I’d be lying if I didn’t mention my ongoing struggle to climb beyond Platinum rank in League of Legends. To keep it real, I’ve included a picture of the screen I seem to end up staring at on many weeknights!
